Since last time I shot the musical performance of "The Pirates of Penzance" at Cohoes Music Hall and won quite a few accolades from the acting teams, I kept thinking if I really wanted to come back and shoot another musical if possible. Though during the shots, I might only be able to focus on part of the story played on the stage, and due to the difference rooted in the cultural background, I could not understand the whole contents then. Yet this opening provided me a good opportunity to get to know more about the history, culture as well as philosophy of the American people, through a vivid story. Like this one, Hair tells a story about how the teenager at Vietnam-era searched for their own rite of passages through wild addiction and spiritual confusion. The acting and music are so excellent that made me shot a lot like last time. I was even running out of memory cards near the end of the show.
For any photographers who happened to bump into this post and wonder how could I capture these without any flash assistance (no flash is allowed and I never used a tripod to do event or portrait shots), I just simply dialed up my ISO setting directly up to 6,400 on my Canon 5D Mark II. All the shots are done by my favorite EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS II with Av and M mode.
As mentioned above too many images were taken and it made me a really hard time to filter and select, so again I divided the whole session into two individual parts. Here is the 1st half that containing some of my favorite moments captured there, and I hope all of you would love to enjoy these as if you were there ~~~ :)
