It has been almost 3 years since my last visit to Mass MoCA for the live performance of Dave Liang's The Shanghai Restoration Project, and this time I went back for another wonderful live concert from a new band named Banda Magda. After 2010, my taste of music transferred a bit from mostly Asian New Age and folk music like Pacific Moon records to the eclectic chill-out music such as Cafe Del Mar and Buddha-bar series. Lead by Athens-born accordionist and singer Magda Giannikou, Banda Magda has a strong jazz and bossa nova taste mixed with tropical happy rhythm. Quite a bunch of their songs will make you feel like stretching and relaxing your body beside the beautiful beach in a lazy summer afternoon. The live performance was way beyond my expectation, the humor, power and passion from these excellent artists were so incredible, just like their music created upon their own life experience and spiritual safari. I am not kind of person who favors mainstream music, which in another way makes me search for and pay more attention to those independent artists and small bands not quite well known by the rest of the world. I've discovered a lot of such outstanding music artists over the years, trying my best to spread the words and support them. Independent artists like Banda Magda definitely deserve more attention from our music lovers, their music has made our planet a better place to live.
