After visiting two of the most famous national parks in UT, I went on to the prestigious Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend Park as well as the gorgeous Lake Powell. Due to the tight schedule and winter season, the time I arrived at Antelope Canyon was too early to witness its exotic beauty basked in the warm golden sunlight. It was extremely cold on the way to the canyon by taking the open jeep operated by local Indian people, and once entering into the canyon, I was struggling with the limited light coming through the gaps from the top of the canyon. Leica M9 was a poor machine in handling low light photography, and this issue became more and more serious when both of the quantity and quality of the light are undesirable. So in the end, the only thing that I could capture were the exotic textures of those red canyon rocks under chiaroscuro. The well-known Horseshoe Bend experienced the similar problem, plus the slippery cliff preventing me from getting close enough to capture the entire view of the bay. When arriving at the Lake Powell near the noon afterwards, I finally got more than enough sunlight to work with. Well I understand natural beauty are mostly sculpted in optimal light, yet during the planned group travel, the only thing one can do is to try capturing the most out of these so-so or non-ideal cases.
