Last weekend I corroborated with the other 3 photographers to shoot my 1st personal project in 2014, a boudoir session with our beautiful model Stephanie. Our friend Mike helped us to book a hotel room in the state house, though it is a bit small, I still preferred to use my telephoto lens most of time to achieve the decent compression look. Also the lighting in that rainy day is a bit tricky inside the room, tungsten lighting from ceiling and table lamps mixed with the weak window light from outside, which definitely pushed my ISO setting up to above 6,400 and even to 10,000 quite often. Due to the limitation of the space and labor, I gave up the options of video light and flash, using only the ambient light to shoot the whole session. This really challenges me to sharpen my skills of finding the light and using the light in any form and any time. Photography is all about the light, keeping that in mind, I finally determined to processed all of my images from this session in black and white to enhance this aspect. The retrospective grainy film look really added some elegance and finesse into these traditional feminine contents, which I never thought about before. After all, I was not a film photographer before, and I had no special film taste personally, so it is weird for me to lead a whole session into this direction. In other way, that's why I favor and still pursue my own dream catcher projects time and time again, among which I can breath freely, create freely, and make mistakes freely. That's the reflection of what I insist and believe - Photography is my life attitude towards the world, an indispensable part and self-reflection of my personality inside out.
