As a portrait photographer, I admit that I am kind of fascinated with female body. Elegant, fragile and delicate, behaving like a brook flowing along the meandering bank. At the same time, I am an innate wedding photographer, and females are always appearing as a potential bride in my mind. So in this indoor bedroom session, I set up a goal to capture something non-traditional, mixed with wedding, fetish and boudoir tastes. April came back to me for trying these ideas, in her "busy" boudoir. I was shocked at the beginning, and I knew this was my challenge. No more 70-200, and no more natural light. The room was like a small box, dim and full. And we need to select every single inch very carefully to enhance my subject in the frames. Challenges like this are more than often in a real wedding situation, turning ordinary into extraordinary is a long-term subject to practice and master in my notes. As a side note, i know lots of portrait photographers always feel so easy to shoot boudoir or nudity as the images are so tempting and sexy by theme themselves, yet that's totally opposite to me. Posing and lighting, for instance, are becoming extremely tricky when our subject had little or nothing to cover. Every single mistake will be magnified in these themes since there is nowhere to hide. So it became so natural that I had to take far longer time to carefully pose and light my model as well as crop the frame directly in my viewfinder. It's just not that easy!
I really appreciate April's patience, trust and cooperation, as well as my lighting assistant Kevin Chen for his holding my ice light through the whole session. I surely enjoy the whole session and would love to capture more beautiful females in this experimental project ~~~
